jackisdoctortom asked: Questiony question numbers: 9, 18, 25, 31 if I can ask more than one :-). If only one thennnnnn 25? Or your pick? :-D
YES someone played with me!
9: Which national or global tragedy were you closest to, and how did it affect you?
I’m one of those kids who barely remembers 9-11. I live in New Hampshire, I was little, and I just remember people calling to ask if Dad, who flee all the time, was alright. He was.
I’m not really a part of any large-scale narratives or collective memories. I’m grateful for that.
18: Favorite Disney princess/princess you must identify with?
Ooooh, boy. I spent a lot of time as a little kid pretending to be various princesses—echolalia, you had to call me by whichever name I was using, I changed the names of everyone around me to fit the script, etc. I think Esmerelda was my favorite?
For a long time I think I’d have said I identified with Belle, because of the books. But I don’t read anymore, and I don’t feel like a princess at all now. Too tall. Too wrong.
25: How do you think you will fare in the zombie apocalypse?
I am fascinated by zombies in fiction and philosophy, and as a metaphor for disability and myself. I think I have two possible futures here:
1: I die because I am a weakling and not at all suited for an apocalypse.
2: They mistake me for one of their own, and I rule the world.
31: Describe your dream library.
My dream library would be one I could settle, focus, and be calm in long enough to actually read. There would be walls of books on all the things that fascinate me, which is almost anything—a little bit of math and physics, some chemistry, evolutionary biology, human evolution, neuroscience, cognitive science/psychology/philosophy, little bit of logic and rhetoric, linguistics, developmental psychology, good autism science, educational psychology, special education, speech/language therapy, inclusive ed, little bit of literary theory, all the memoirs, all the picture books, all the Cartoon Guides To…, a lot of macrohistory, some basic feminist theory and disability & LGBT+ history, social and visual history of a lot of different eras including a lot of medieval, renaissance, & European history, some anthropology, pop-culture scholarship and books that look at ideas, semiotics, and subcultures, all of the pop-culture and philosophy series, some basic guides to various mythologies, and several really interesting sounding sci-fi and occasionally fantasy series I’ve been wanting to pick up.
I really miss reading.
My entire identity for most of my life was constructed around being the girl who was always reading books. That I can’t anymore is still raw and painful.
